Explore the century old heritage of Kathmandu Valley in this half day tour. There are seven world heritage sites in Kathmandu, and exploring them is a must thing to do. These monuments date back to as far as the 5th Century and speak in volume of Nepal’s history and culture.
A half day tour of the Kathmandu Heritage Tour will bring you to the 4 World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. Things to do include exploring Pashupatinath temple, the Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhu Stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square. We will use a private vehicle tour to reach these places.
Having a guide will help us explore the secret places in Kathmandu and help us learn more about the culture and history.
We start our day by visiting the Kathmandu Durbar Square, the palace of historical kings of Nepal, before they moved to the Narayanhiti Palace (now museum). The Durbar Square has a lot of temples and monuments speaking the rich history of Kathmandu. The main palace is influenced by European architecture. Spending some time to explore the Kumari house, Kalbhairav statue, and Hanuman Dhoka Palace (now museum) are great things to do around the Kathmandu Durbar Square. Souvenir shopping is also popular. During the Indra Jatra, the palace comes to life with crowds and ancient ceremonies.
We head towards Monkey temple (Swayambhunath) afterwards. This temple has a special meaning for Buddhists and Hindus worldwide. We drive up to the main entrance and start our journey by climbing the stairs to the top of the hill. Souvenir buying is a thing to do. They range from nameplates, bracelets and other unique looking items. On the top is the great stupa, signifying the peaceful eyes of Lord Buddha. Pigeons and monkeys are a common view as we circle the main stupa along the prayer wheels. You can also enjoy a great view of Kathmandu valley on a clear day.
We will head towards Boudhanath Stupa, the greatest Stupa in Kathmandu, dating back to ancient times and with its own origin story. The Stupa lies on the ancient Nepal Tibet trading route and is home to various Tibetans that settled in Nepal. You can enter the stupa and climb it to a certain point.
Later, we will drive to Pashupatinath, the greatest pilgrimage site of Hindus. The temple is home to Lord Shiva, with a large area full of temples, shelters for people/animals, monks and so much more. You can enter the temple if you are a Hindu. Open cremation is a sight you would rarely miss, as the Hindus cremate their deceased on the banks of River Bagmati.
Take a Tour to Patan and Bhaktapur
Extending your stay to explore Patan and Bhaktapur is another thing to do in Nepal’s capital. This tour shares insight into two of the old Kings’ palaces and world heritage sites in the Patan and Bhaktapur region of Kathmandu Valley. The valley has three districts, once separate kingdoms ruled by brothers. In their effort to outsmart each other, Nepal was blessed by these ancient and historically important centers.
The Patan Durbar square is smaller than Bhaktapur Durbar. Both palaces are surrounded by both ancient and modern looking homes, mostly owned by the Newars, the native of the region. Visiting these temples will give us an insight into the rich architecture, history and culture of the valley. Strolling and observing is a thing to do.
Apart from the main palace where the kings used to reside, the area contains several temples, monuments and spots. For instance, the Krishna Mandir of Patan is a religiously popular temple carved out of stone. Nyatapola Temple of Bhaktapur is so strong that it endured the large earthquake of 2015.
We will climb to its balcony and view the square / courtyard below with visitors and locals. The Newars use this place to celebrate various of their festivals. On those specific days, the show is grandeur and it can be enjoyed by both locals and international visitors.
The Patan museum will give insight into historical attires, currency, tools and other artifacts interesting to many of us. Gaining these information might be another thing to do while in Nepal. Bhaktapur Durbar square is very well managed and visiting these two destinations will tick the time back to centuries. The Golden Gate, Lion Gate and 55 windowed palace are the highlights of Bhaktapur Durbar.
Patan Durbar is divided into Keshav Narayan Chowk, Mul Chowk and Sundari Chowk. You will enjoy the temple lights and decorations in the evening.

With the help of a guide, you will be able to understand the story and meaning behind these monuments, and their influence on Nepali culture, festivals and lifestyle.
The Swayambhunath Temple (monkey temple) is the greatest pilgrimage of Buddhists whereas the Pashupatinath Temple is for the Hindus. On top of that, both Hindus and Buddhists visit either of these temples, signifying a greater religious harmony and tolerance, unlike anywhere else in this world.
Boudhanath temple is the largest Stupa in Nepal, and gives a sense of serenity and peace as you circle along the prayer flags.

Great Lhotse, Nuptse and Mount Everest appear right before your eyes. You are at the top of Khumbu Valley. It’s surrounded by mountains of various heights and structures. Khumbu Icefall also appears just above the base Camp. This is the route climbers follow to the summit.
Later, we fly back and land in Syanboche for breakfast. The hotel holds a Guinness World Record for serving at the world’s highest altitude. We will sit outside and enjoy breakfast with views of the large mountain range in the north.
